Hitachi Data Systems intros modular storage enhancements

Hitachi's new modular system provides an SAS foundation

Hitachi Data Systems introduced enhancements across hardware and software to its Adaptable Modular Storage 2000 family. "The Hitachi Adaptable Modular Storage 2000 family has the capability to manage extremely complex tasks and enables a level of operational efficiencies not found in other modular storage products," said Mike Walkey, Senior Vice President of Global Channels, Hitachi Data Systems.

As part of the Hitachi Storage Solutions portfolio, the Adaptable Modular Storage 2000 family delivers features such as symmetrical active-active controllers and a SAS backplane. Enhancements to the storage platform include a high density storage expansion tray and a dynamic provisioning software.

According to Hitachi, the 8Gb/sec fiber Channel (FC) host ports incorporated in the data storage system will help connect the latest generation of host bus adapters and switches for the maximum throughput and connectivity on Adaptable Modular Storage 2300 and 2500 systems. The Adaptable Modular Storage 2500DC and the NEBS Level-3 Compliant Switch, Hitachi claims, helps improve the reliability of the systems.

As part of its security enhancements, Adaptable Modular Storage reportedly includes features such as external authentication and Common Criteria Certification.

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
