Toon Boom's Studio 5 gains stop-motion animation tools

New tools for professional animation suite

Toon Boom Animation has launched Toon Boom Studio 5, a new version of the Toon Boom Studio 2.5D animation software that adds stop-motion animation tools to its existing array of animation capabilities.

Toon Boom Studio 5 offers tools for multiple styles of animation, including a combination of stop-motion, traditional, digital, cut-out and rotoscoping animation methods.

Studio 5 adds tools for creating stop-motion animation, as well as time-lapse imagery. The new Live View and Image Capture tools lets users see images exactly as they will appear in the final movie.

Users can change the backgrounds of scenes using green- and bluescreens keying tools, and position and align elements using onion skinning. Rotoscoping tools allow animators to draw over photographs and other images.

Toon Boom says that other new features include improved image playback optimization for faster previews, Annotation Layers for feedback, easy export of animation directly to YouTube or Facebook, support for import of projects from Flip Boom Classic and Animation-ish, and an enhanced user interface.

Animators who pre-order Toon Boom Studio 5 through May 14 will get the software for US$329.99, and a copy of version 4.5 to use until version 5 ships. After May 14, Toon Boom Studio 5 will cost US$399.99.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
