The latest update to Google Earth contains some new terrain imagery around eight different parts of Australia.

Developed by the Google geo-engineering team, Australia was the only country to receive new terrain images this update.

According to Google, people planning outdoor activities and trips across the country now have access to a whole new level of information, contributing to Australia’s ‘virtual tourism’.

“Terrain view in Google Earth helps to show people around the world just how spectacular Australia's natural landscape is," a Google spokesperson said.

The new addition to Google Earth highlights some terrain surrounding Wollongong, Perth, Hobart, Geelong, Canberra, Cairns, Adelaide and the Whitsunday Islands.
