Is Halo 3: Recon an expansion or stand-alone game? According to Bungie, quoted in the December issue of Game Informer, it's both.

Bungie lead designer Paul Bertone described Recon as "a three to five-hour expansion pack" to the magazine, transcribed by Bungie.org. But unlike initial reports, it seems the game will in fact be priced to move. "We do not view this as a [US]$60 title," said Bungie cinematic director Joe Straten.

Unfortunately, Game Informer doesn't contain any screenshots, reports Bungie.org, "but there's quite a bit of concept art, and there's a lot of description of how the game is going to work."

Halo 3: Recon is planned for release on Xbox 360 between July and September 2009.
