Dial-up fading, DSL still king
According to a recent ABS report, just 23 percent of active Internet subscribers remain on dial-up. DSL continues to dominate the market, whereas wireless is the fastest-growing technology.

Almost 80 percent of the 7.2 million internet subscribers in Australia have moved on from dial-up, according to a recent ABS report.
As of the end of the third quarter of 2008, just 1.5 million internet subscribers (23 percent of active Internet subscribers) remained on dial-up, with 43 percent of subscribers on connections with speeds of 1.5Mbps or greater.
DSL continues to be the dominant technology, representing nearly 70 percent of all non dial-up subscribers. This is a six percent increase since the start of the year.
But the fastest growing access technology is wireless, which has increased by 90 percent in six months, and now accounts for 809,000 subscribers.
