Telstra BigPond has announced it has exclusive Australian mobile rights to the multiplayer version of Spore — the new universe-in-a-box game from Electronic Arts. Australian gamers will be able to use their Next G mobile phones to play the game, search for friends and challenge Spore players from around the world.

“We’re dedicated to bringing the very best in mobile entertainment to fans Australia-wide and we are proud to be a part of such an innovative and unique opportunity”, BigPond group managing director Justin Milne said.

The partnership was welcomed by the game’s publisher, EA Mobile. Mark Fordham, head of sales and marketing, said: “Partnering with Australia’s biggest mobile network means fans can get Spore on their mobile nearly anywhere in the country. We’re looking forward to seeing a strong Aussie presence in [the game].”

Spore Origins is played over 18 stages, with players fighting for survival as multi-cellular organisms. Players survive in the game by attacking and eating competitors while avoiding being eaten themselves. Each Spore Origins creature is custom built by the player and is subjected to evolution with opportunities to add or remove unique features and abilities.

Spore Origins can be purchased from the BigPond portal on Telstra mobiles for $7. BigPond is the exclusive Australian online retailer of Spore Origins Connected Version.
