Optus today announced its pricing plans for the highly anticipated iPhone 3G.
The announcement comes three days after Telstra revealed the plans and pricing it was offering for the different versions of the iPhone.
Optus' plans will come into affect on 11 July, the official release date of the iPhone 3G in Australia. According to its dedicated iPhone site, Optus will offer both prepaid and post-paid plans for the iPhone.
Optus is currently one of three mobile operators slated to offer the iPhone in Australia, along with Telstra and Vodafone.
Optus' pre-paid plans aren't specific to the iPhone and follow its standard pre-paid pricing for mobile phones. The iPhone will be purchased outright under these plans, with the 8GB available for $729 and the 16GB model for $849. Plans range from a $30 cap with no data to a $100 cap.
Data allowance on pre-paid caps do differ somewhat from Optus' standard pricing, with a $40 cap giving users 50MB of data, a $50 cap allowing for up to 500MB data and the $70 cap offering 700MB of data. The $100 premium cap has a 1GB data limit.
Optus is offering seven monthly post-paid plans, with caps ranging from $19 to $179 per month. Twelve and 24 month contracts are available.
All 12-month contracts will involve an additional payment for the handset, but with a 24-month contract there will be no additional cost for the 8GB model under the $79 plan. The 16GB model will not cost extra under the $89 plan. A data allowance is included for all post-plans, with 1GB available on both the $149 and $179 caps.
Optus is offering iPhone customers unlimited data transfer for a limited time. Post-paid customers will receive unlimited data for the first month of their contract if they connect before 31 August; pre-paid customers receive unlimited data until the end of August.
Optus' plans differ somewhat from those announced by Telstra. Telstra has announced that its plans include free access to Telstra hotspots, but it has yet to announce pricing for data over its Next G network. Vodafone is yet to announce any pricing plans.
