Street Fighter IV will grace PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC this winter, Capcom announced Tuesday afternoon. Confirmation of the game's multiplatform release comes after French website Jeuxvideo reported the company was planning a simultaneous launch for later this year.
Along with confirming the game's release on consoles and PC, Capcom touted new characters and features for this fourth official instalment of the beloved series. Joining the entire cast of Street Fighter II are femme fatale Crimson Viper, lucha libre wrestler El Fuerte, and martial artist Abel. Other new additions are to be revealed at a later date. The company also teased new fighting mechanics, mentioning new focus attacks, super combos, and ultra combo systems. Expect specific details soon as Capcom will likely showcase the game at its upcoming press event later this week.
Although only half complete at the time, after playing the Japanese arcade version reviews editor Tae K. Kim boldly stated that it "definitely raised my hopes that Street Fighter IV can reinvigorate the franchise and put Capcom on the forefront of the fighting game genre."
Street Fighter IV is slated for a winter release, which could mean it hits PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC before year's end; however, don't be too surprised if it gets pushed to January or February much like Capcom's last winter release, Devil May Cry 4.
