Adam Internet, one of South Australia's leading Internet providers has launched a VoIP service in partnership with ISPhone Australasia.
The service is called AdamTalk, and is only available to Adam Internet's ADSL Broadband customers. It will carry a monthly fee of $5, with $5 call credit. Phone calls will be untimed and charged at as little as 12 cents for local and STD calls. VoIP calls to other AdamTalk customers will be free of charge.
Managing Director of Adam Internet, Scott Hicks spoke of the other benefits of the AdamTalk service.
"Customers are able to dial 000 which allows their address to be located in the event of an emergency, while measures are also in place to reduce the risk of disruption during service failure. Furthermore, the service is still operational regardless of whether the computer is switched on or off."
The service can operate either through the user's computer, or through an existing phone that is connected to a modem and attached to a specialised adapter.
Adam Internet is one of the largest ISPs in South Australia, with 35 per cent of the broadband and dial-up market. It has been in operation for 20 years, and has steadily grown to cater to residential, government and business customers.
The AdamTalk service doesn't seek to compete with established VoIP providers, such as Skype. "The service is one of convenience, rolling all services into one bill," Hicks said. "The quality of the service is very high, too. The sound, for instance, is comparable to a landline."
ISPhone was founded in 2005 and sells VoIP solutions to ISPs, System Integrators and other IT consultants. Hicks said that the company "won out against the competition because it is a likeminded, future-focused technology company. ISPhone is the only national provider with a dedicated point of presence in Adelaide."
The company is currently developing a VoIP package for businesses, which is due to be launched later in the year.
