Nintendo dominates July NPD sales

As expected, Nintendo maintained its dominance in North American hardware sales for the month of July according to NPD, only this time the Wii surpassed the DS for the first time since launching last November.

Official hardware numbers for July in North America were as follows:

1. Nintendo Wii: 425,000

2. Nintendo DS: 405,000

3. Sony PS2: 222,000

4. Sony PSP: 214,000

5. Microsoft Xbox 360: 170,000

6. Sony PS3: 159,000

7. Nintendo GBA: 87,000

PS3 sales increased by 60 percent over June since dropping its price by $100 in mid July. By comparison, Wii sales increased 11 percent over the last reported month while Xbox 360 sales dropped nearly 15 percent during the same period.
