Harris customers to build their own Acer PCs

Retailer launches build-your-own PC configurator for tech-savvy consumers and business customers

Harris Technology has teamed up with Acer and launched a build-your-own PC configuration program.

The new system allows customers to select an Acer desktop PC from the Harris catalogue and upgrade the specifications depending on their requirements. The retailer is promising 5-10 business day delivery or customers can opt to pick it up from one of its nine Business Centres nationally.

In a statement, Harris supply chain business manager, Brod Ivory, said the program would complement its range of standard and exclusive specification PCs. Harris is a direct Acer partner.

The retailer also stocks exclusive models from Lenovo and HP but would not offer customised PC services around either in the short term, a spokesperson said.

"Acer is a key partner for Harris Technology and we wanted to leverage our relationship further and utilise the successful configurator tool they have in place," the spokesperson said.

Tech-savvy consumers and business customers were the main customer target, the spokesperson added.

The new program combined the AcerLink configuration and quoting system with Harris' online infrastructure and stock information, providing a more seamless and efficient system, Acer marketing director, Raymond Vardenega, said. The vendor was also looking to work with other retailers and resellers to develop joint PC configuration programs.

"We want to continue pushing consolidated programs with resellers and deliver this to more partners to take advantage of the effort we've put in developing our e-commerce system," he said.

Acer has been providing its AcerLink functionality via distributors to dealers since 2003. The tool is built on its ApeC e-commerce system.

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

Windows 10 / Lenovo Yoga 910

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.

For work use, Microsoft Word and Excel programs pre-installed on the device are adequate for preparing short documents.
